Following Kat’s fantastic gymnastics career as a GBR Trampoline Gymnast, she maintains an active and committed member of the gymnastics community. Her current role as a Performance Services Officer (British Gymnastics) allows Kat to support the development and performance pathways allowing British Gymnasts to be supported and achieve their very best. Kat’s passion and enthusiasm for the sport is ingrained making her a living advocate for the sport and the impact this can have.

Tell us about the key highlights of your Trampoline career.

I think it’s hard to beat competing at your home Olympic Games, that experience in front of 16,000 fans was an incredible day and I would love to relive over and over again. Easily the best day in my career.

What have you been doing since retiring as an athlete?

I now work at British Gymnastics as a performance services officer working with the WAG (Women’s Artistic Gymnastics) programme. It’s great to still be involved and use my experiences to try and help the current and future gymnast and bring a view from a different discipline. I love still being involved and giving back to the sport I have spent 30 years doing.

Why should people be excited for the World Championships in Birmingham?

I am most looking forward to watching all of the athletes stepping up and grabbing their opportunity to shine on the World stage – seeing the excitement build to those athletes trying to qualify Olympic quota places along with World Games quota places. I love watching the fierce battle of competition in a sport with such fine margins.

As a former GB athlete, what do you think it will mean to the team to compete in front of a home crowd?

Having competed at a home World Champs (2011) and a home Olympic Games (2012) I can say that it is the greatest feeling. Having that crowd supporting our teams so loudly and passionately definitely gives you a huge confidence boost and makes you feel like you have a huge advantage over everyone else. The cheer when the GBR flag is raised or announced is an indescribable feeling and they will be so proud to represent our nation.
